Turning knowledge into better care and better outcomes.

Research at Northwood is focused on improving care in practical, meaningful ways with a strong emphasis on resident well-being, workforce experience, and evidence-informed practice.

This past year, Northwood supported 21 research inquiries, resulting in 6 active research projects across long-term care and home care. Current initiatives are exploring topics such as dementia care, workforce wellbeing, fracture prevention, infection prevention, oral health, and the impacts of environmental factors on vulnerable populations.

This year also saw continued collaboration with organizations including Dalhousie University, St. Francis Xavier University, and national research partners, helping ensure research remains closely connected to frontline care and real-world impact.

Several projects progressed through data collection, analysis, and knowledge sharing stages throughout the year, contributing to publications, webinars, and sector-wide learning opportunities.

At the centre of this work are the voices and experiences of residents and clients themselves, helping ensure research remains grounded in lived experience and meaningful outcomes.

“Northwood welcomes resident feedback because it helps ensure the research is relevant to the populations it is meant to serve. Our opinions matter, and they can make all the difference.”
